Murrayfield-DAFs CC won the inaugural BSLT Indoor Cricket 6s at the Gytes Leisure Centre in Peebles on Sunday, carrying off the Champions Trophy in an exciting final against Gala CC. Earlier Kelso CC’s young guns lifted the Plate with a resounding win over Peebles County.

After a series of group games which started back in January, the four remaining teams in the competition contested the semi-finals. A young Gala CC team captained by Duncan Millar finished on top of the table unbeaten and were firm favourites to lift the inaugural Trophy after their domineering display of hard-hitting batting, accurate bowling and tight fielding. In second spot was Murrayfield-DAFs CC having lost just the one game to a rampant Gala CC. The inaugural LiveSport.co.uk ESCA Indoor Sixes tournament came to a conclusion at Liberton High School with a finals night which saw Marchmont, Holy Cross, Musselburgh and the Edinburgh Schools Academy fight for the title.

In match one Marchmont saw off Holy Cross with a stylish win to advance to the final, Musselburgh then took on the unbeaten schools academy and struggled against their younger opponents. The ESA were victorious and progressed to the final.

In the final Marchmont showed they had learned from the tactics of the ERA and produced their best performance of the tournament to overcome the youngsters in a thrilling final.

Well done to Marchmont CC.

A big thanks to all who took part, all umpires, scorers and indeed spectators for making this an excellent event throughout the 9 weeks.

Stenhousemuir CC v Westquarter & Reading CC

The Final of the Forth Valley six-a-side competition was held on Friday 30th March 2012 at Dollar Academy Games Hall. Westquarter batted first but failed to get off to their usual flying start when Adham Aslam was run out for 1, their problems were compounded in the third over when, their normally prolific batter, Hamad Mumtaz was well caught by Ross Jones off Keiran Simpson for 8. Their troubles didn’t end there, Umar Aslam, bowled by Aaron Williamson for 1, three wickets down for 28. Enter the “mature” partnership of Steve Sutton and Stuart Cox to steady the ship and take the score to 51 before Cox nicked one (and walked) to keeper Chris Halcrow off captain Kirk Crichton for 8. Young Usman Abbid joined Sutton as they worked the ball around, finishing the ten overs on 66 for 4, Steve Sutton not out on 18. Stenhousemuir fielded well and in the main bowled tightly, however their extras total of more than 20 gave Westquarter a chance to come back, if they could bowl accurately.
